I would love to find one other person that isn't [info]lucentai that also thinks Final Fantasy 4 DS is about as insulting as it gets. Why did they have us buy a Game Boy Advance version not barely three years ago, then? I refuse to get boned out of another $40 US Dollars for some crude 3D graphics and a little voice acting. I got better companies to get boned by, like a certain arcade giant who milked me for thousands of Wii Points only to release a cheapshit compilation later!

Now this...

You Are an "A-OK"

Your life philosophy can be summed up as, "Whatever will be, will be."

Your greatest wish is to live each day a little better than the next.

You are naturally calm and stable. Some people would call you a rock.

You feel one with the world. You are a spiritual person, though no one who knows you would guess it.

and when i swallow my gum

For a little over three years now, there's been many, many nights I've spent poking my stylus at my Nintendo DS through light-hearted, addicting courtroom drama. Those days are offically over, at least for the time being. Now that I've topped off Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, what the hell am I going to do with myself? Turnabout Withdrawal, or maybe? Whenever Gyakuten Saiban 5 and the even more intriguing Gyakuten Kenji see the light of day, I can only pray and hope that Capcom hops on the localizations as fast as possible. I've started playing Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles to tide myself over but it just ain't the same. I need real food, for fuck's sake.

Star Parodier didn't show itself today on Virtual Console, but a pair of import straight-to-video shmups arrived all the same in the form of Gley Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone. I sprung on both of them without hesitation as soon as I got home from work and have been doing nothing else since. It baffles me to this very day why every territory in the freaking universe got Super Fantasy Zone besides us, but whatever WE HAVE IT NOW I GUESS LOLOL. Gley Lancer seems to be entirely in English save for the intro movie text, so that's also a wonder why it never left its home country. The Sega Genesis was home to a nest full of ghetto shmups, but Gley Lancer seems to be a big cut above the rest. If this is my belated reward for having endured trashy blasters back in the day like Arrow Flash and Eliminate Down, I'll take it.

Try as I might, my phone will no longer upload pictures to the internet. This has become an obsession of mine in the last.. 18 hours. I feel a desperate need to show off my purple back. Or maybe it's the pain I feel. Hm.

This also changes my understanding of how Sprint handles multimedia messages. In the past, sending a picture to anyone would also cause the photo to load into the horrible online photo manager for future use. However, [info]abooknerd is the only outside party to gain my bondage shots.

I would also like to complain about how my 2 megapixel camphone has turned into a 500pixel camwhore phone. Every picture is high contrast, whether I want it that way or not. Anything overly bright, or white, turns yellow... and sometimes ceases to exist.

Oh and my back feels worse after the doctor's inspection. I'm hoping she wasn't fail also. No sleep today/tonight, so I've passed the time trolling. So many people on the internet believe they have delightfully aromatic shit, which makes it easy to send them into a nerdrage.

Oh, I also need 4 more girls for our soccer "small group." The night we want for co-ed league has too many men/is run by Feminazis so any new groups need an equal number of men and women... or more women than men! Good thing the girls I know are better at soccer than they are at video games =P =P =P =P =P =P =P

A New Star Trek Movie to be Released

  • Jul. 22nd, 2008 at 8:29 AM

I love Star Trek. I was one of those geeky people who played the game of “who can be the fastest to name which episode that is” game as we sat watching a rerun of the original series for the Nth time. As scary as it is, I frequently won. So yes, I have been a Trekkie since I was a little girl watching the show with my daddy.

Now a new movie is on the horizon, one directed by J.J Abrams, writer of Alias and Lost. That alone would cause me to want to see this. Add to that Zahary Quinto from “Heroes” as young Spock with Leonard Nimoy reprising his role as the now aging Spock, and I’m really in.

I’m excited by the spiel so far. If I can believe what I’m hearing, some questions I’ve had since the beginning may be answered for me.

The movie will be released May 2009. That’s a long time to wait, but I suspect it will be worth it.

Dropping support

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 10:22 PM
I've left [info]dolly_cafeteria and I've dropped VVD's endorsement of the group from the profile page. It's not what it used to be. There are occasional good posts, but it's turned into LOOKIT MY BWATZ PICS! GO LOOKIT! AND GIVE ME CWEDIT FOR FINDING A PWOMO SHOT BECAUSE THAT MAKES ME COOL!

Sharing your pictures is fine, but do it in the community. Don't constantly advertise your own space.

And if you found something, good for you. But don't be a real BRAT and demand everyone and her mother credit you. It's not that big an achievement.

But the community's not what it once was back when the mod gave a shit. So if something big happens there, someone let me know and I'll go look. 'Kay? 'Kay.

Also, I'm REALLY steamed they take my favorite Bratz doll in a LONG ASS time and put her out somewhere I can't afford to get her from. Aubrey, come to the fucking US, willya? I won't pay $50 for you! UGH. Looking at her pictures is torture. It's like when I couldn't get Pretty 'n' Punk Jade right away because I was in Egypt. Of course then I was so busy I didn't have too much time to think about it, but the longing was still there. Now I've got to deal with the longing AND having more time to think about it. AND being post-terriblehorriblenogoodverybad-Bratz season makes it even harder. *bitch moan whine complain*

So I finally replaced my CPU with one that hopefully isn't damaged -- we'll see how it works out. The replacement's clock speed is actually a little bit lower, but to be perfectly honest, my main concern is that it not overheat and crash while running CPU-intensive processes, such as Notepad and Firefox.

Also, I have my first ever job interview tomorrow. I've applied for jorbs before, but this is the first time that I've actually gotten even feigned interest in recruiting me, so I'm excited and happy about it. If all goes well, I will be making delicious smoothies about ten hours a week during the semester. Wish me luck.

(I'm using German LJ at the moment and I'm finding it sort of hilarious how much of it they didn't even bother to translate. A good quarter of the interface text is still entirely in English -- things like "Your journal entry has been edited," not just a word here or there.)

Casino in my hair?

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 5:48 PM
So the other week I placed an order for two oddball Japanese titles and they came in the mail today...

...it's only now that I realize they're both Casino games! XD

The first is Suchie-Pai 3 Remix for DS. As some of you are aware, I am a HUGE fan of Milky Pai (more on her later) and as such when I found out this existed I HAD to buy it...even though I STILL don't know how to play Mahjong! XD I was quite happy to find this title released on DS and PSP and was even happier to find out that the PSP version actually features a brand new anime intro animated in good 'ol retro Kenichi Sonoda style! In this age of shitty remake art, I was beginning to think that all the good artists just vanished or SOMETHING, but sure enough they kept the old Sonoda art and were able to do all new animation in his style!

Unfortunately they totally phoned in the DS release. While the PSP one has TONS of fancy bonus features and an anime intro and everything, the DS one has...less than nothing. There's only 3 options on the main menu: Arcade, Challenge, and Options. Not even a Gallery option even though it still has the gallery pictures in the game! Worse yet, ALL animation was cut from the game, replaced with still images. This is easily the shittiest port I've seen in ages!

At least the touch screen works well for the game it seems, but even the mahjong tile sprites look like ass. I wouldn't be so mad if it weren't for the fact that this cost $50, same as the PSP release. What a rip-off! Still, at least I'd PLAY it! I'm gonna see if I can just pirate the PSP release, I paid my dues. If that fails...I guess I'll have to attempt to nab a legit copy and PRAY they don't run out at PlayAsia (because I ASSURE you they won't restock). On the plus side, at least the DS release comes with a drama CD.

The other title, however, was Ridge Racer Pachi-Slot! :D

They really put alot of effort into this, odd though that may seem. The menus look like they came from a real Ridge Racer title, you can rotate the slot machine, there's a big 'ol option filled "Simulation Mode", a Challenge Mode, and most importantly a gallery for all the movies that play on the little screen.

For those that watched the Cham-Cham Pachislot video...yeah...it's like that. Pachislot is weird compared to slot machines. You win alot but you win very little. It feels oddly semi-rigged in your favor.

Regardless what REALLY matters is the sheer amount of Reiko here! This is the closest we've ever come to a Reiko game and there's TONS of footage of her! Quite possibly more than in all other Ridge Racers combined!

...and incase you forgot, the ENTIRE reason I bought a PSP was because of Reiko. I mean, I don't even LIKE Ridge Racer! Too slidey!

So yeah...a title that consists entirely of playing slots in order to earn new clips of Reiko? SOLD! Also I am ETERNALLY amused that every time a car passes you, the announcer says "Oh! You got owned!" XD

I know the notes to several anime songs which I play on my cornet.
http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/07/21/a-milestone-for-wii-shooter-fans/
Good news for people who want even more space shooters on the Wii: the Milestone Shooting Collection, a three-game bundle including Chaos Field, Radilgy and Karous, has been picked up for U.S. release on September 23 by UFO Interactive. Chaos Field was released here on the GameCube in 2005, but the other two games are completely new to us -- partly because the GameCube release of Radilgy was cancelled.

When Milestone announced this item for Japanese release last May, it was going to be a retail release of Karous only. Then Milestone decided to throw a couple of bonus games on there, and then it became the "Shooting Collection." The bundle is probably the only way it could ever get picked up by an American publisher. And $30 isn't bad at all for three games, even in the age of downloadable games!

OH MY GOD OH SHIT crap, I need to raze more of my games before super star, wario, the force unleashed, dragon quest 4?, de blob?, guilty gear 2 September =\=\=\ Ughghghghgh ... some compromises are going to have to be made. I suck.

Chaos Field is that sort of 2D vertical shmup that dominated my entire existence left and right. I got to play a little bit of Radilgy and the bullet patterns weren't all that interesting from what I saw/remember, but the oddball visuals seemed unlike anything else I'd seen in the genre. I wonder how Karous is?

Why so serious?

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 11:45 AM
I don't know, you tell me.

So, yeah. Saw The Dark Knight on Saturday. And has been customary for my reviews, LJ cut, for spoilers and...

On the bright side, when i was waiting for the movie to begin, I was playing Digimon World Dusk on my DS, and this kid that filed in behind me suddenly shouted "It's Digimon!"

To which I said "Yes, it certainly is."

Now, if only I could figure out why the hell Black Were Garurumon's Mega is Gulfmon. I mean, what kind of sense does that make?

Oh, wait. Digimon World. Never mind.

Why you no make dolls?

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 11:48 AM
I demand more literary character dolls! Why are there eighty million versions of Dorothy and Alice, but I can't find a decent Anne Shirley or Laura Ingalls?

There are tons of Anne dolls, but most of them suck. They either look like generic porcelain redheads or they have the wrong color eyes. Pullip Anne is adorable, but Anne didn't have blue eyes. This Anne is cute:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Timeless-Treasures-Anne-of-Green-Gables-Doll-in-Box_W0QQitemZ270256135661
But doesn't quite seem Anne enough.

This page is pretty exemplary of the Anne selection:
http://www.island-flower.com/anneofgreengablesdolls.htm

I love the porcelain one on the bench, but AGAIN wrong eye color! She's the most Anne-like otherwise though. My next choice would be the 16" Anne in the green jumper underneath the set of 3" dolls. She's at least cute and looks well-made.

Poor Laura fares much worse. I can hardly find any dolls of her, save one series, and they're not cute.

Someone needs to produce well-made, accurate dolls of these characters!

My friend, [info]zavryl  , just posted her first real blog entry yesterday. She was really nervous about doing this and it took her a little while to gather up the courage to post.

She's a kind and caring person who I think is really great. I've told her about how much I have enjoyed getting to know all of you and she's decided to step into this new and exciting world called sharing on LJ.

Being new to blogging, she's not quite ready to do the whole friending frenzy thing, but she would love to meet new people and make some new friends.

If you have a moment, please stop over and say "hi" to her here.

It would mean a lot to both of us.

Thanks!

* I'm just trying to share the joy.
